Verifiable green hydrogen needs a shared data layer.
HydroLedger, developed through Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida’s BBH2 research, connects hydrogen provenance, emissions data and product passports into a traceable whole. HBC brings Nordic use cases, companies and a path to pilots.
BCCM is the research centre. BCAM is its education project.
Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida (BCCM) is a research institute at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida. Its work combines blockchain research, software development and knowledge transfer, with a particular focus on energy and the circular economy. Blockchain Academy Mittweida (BCAM) is a separate BCCM education project – which is why BCCM is the correct name for this hydrogen collaboration.
COMPETENCE
CENTER MITTWEIDAH₂
One verifiable history across the value chain.
The BBH2 material identifies separate platforms, missing interoperability, complex CO₂ calculations and burdensome evidence management as challenges across the hydrogen chain.
Sensitive data stays protected. Evidence moves.
The approach separates the client application used by companies from a shared blockchain layer. Companies can register plants and batches, authorities can verify attributes and market surveillance can check permissions without publishing all commercial data on-chain.
Role boundary: HydroLedger supports traceability, audit trails and sustainability evidence. It does not perform audits or issue certificates itself.
Client application
Easy onboarding without blockchain expertise. Sensitive material remains off-chain.
Shared evidence layer
DIDs, verified attributes, smart contracts and an immutable transaction history.
From research to Nordic use cases.
BCCM brings a research-backed technical model, energy expertise and the HydroLedger MVP. HBC can connect it to Finnish and Nordic companies, market needs, expert networks and bounded experiments.

The technical description on this page is grounded in BCCM’s BBH2/HydroLedger material. The original research consortium consisted of Exxeta, BCCM and Ökotec-Anlagenbau and received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
